When and where is BLOOM 2027? ▾
February 2027 (Date TBD) at Indiana University South Bend (IUSB). The specific date within February is to be confirmed.
Who can attend BLOOM? ▾
BLOOM is open to high school students from across northern Indiana, including Elkhart, South Bend, Mishawaka, and Middlebury. IU students, educators, and environmental professionals are also welcome.
Is there a cost to attend? ▾
Attendance is free for all high school students. A catered lunch is provided. Registration is coordinated through Earth Charter Indiana.
How do high school students register? ▾
Students register through their school. Teachers at partner schools select students and coordinate group registration through Earth Charter Indiana. Individual students can also register through the registration page.
Do students need prior journalism or writing experience? ▾
No prior experience is required. All workshops are designed for beginners. Students only need curiosity about environmental issues and an interest in storytelling.
What happens to student work after the conference? ▾
ASIU and YEPT pair each student with a mentor to help refine and publish their story. Finished work may appear on YEPT.org and in the 89 Percent Project collaborative print magazine.
Can IU students participate? ▾
Yes. IU students are encouraged to attend to offer guidance, host and attend workshops, and serve as mentors for high school students during the peer review and pitch sessions.
Can organizations table at the conference? ▾
Yes. There is an opportunity for environmental and community organizations to table at BLOOM. Contact us at the contact page to inquire about tabling.
Is the venue accessible? ▾
Yes. All session venues at IUSB are ADA-compliant. Contact us in advance for specific accommodation requests.
